(from March 2014 to October 2018)
I have been involved in plant propagation via cuttings, division and grafting, plant care such as weed control and pruning, potting and product dispatch. I have also been involved in the company's administrative tasks, such as stock lists and promotional activities.
The work requires a combination of team work and self direction, allowing me to develop strong interpersonal skills and communication as well as initiative.
I have learnt much about plant species, seasonal variation and growth experimentation.
(from June 2018 to July 2018)
I volunteered on a 15 day conservation research expedition based in the north western jungle of Madagascar. The project entailed three studies per day to provide aid to scientists as part of a long term monitoring project of the biodiversity health. The studies undertaken included;
- Herptile, lemur, invertebrate, lepidoptera and bird surveys along numerous routes
- Bird mist netting and studies
- Vegetation surveys to examine forest health and growth
- Mapping activities using GPS to determine village expansion
A series of lectures was also a key part of the program, covering safety procedures, Malagasy culture and history as well as scientific monitoring and study methods.
