OPTUS | Change/Release Manager – Operational Support Systems (from July 2004 to December 2009)
The Change/Release Manager role involves the co-ordination of the complete end to end testing and deployment of upgrades to the primary network provisioning system for OPTUS. Releases involved one major application upgrade and two minor maintenance releases per calendar year. Metadata model updates occur once a month and are considered a ‘business as usual’ task. Achievements: • Major application upgrades – The network provisioning system goes through 1 major upgrade each year. This upgrade covers new functionality enhancements to the software and bug fixes. Co-ordinating this release involves managing the necessary system and business resources across the company to conduct regression and user acceptance testing (UAT), creation of implementation plans for both solution testing and production deployments, engaging necessary IT and business skill groups to obtain approvals to proceed with the deployment, and being on call during the deployment. All major application upgrades I have managed have been delivered to the agreed business date which has allowed users to gain the benefits of each subsequent release • Minor maintenance upgrades – The network provisioning system goes through 2 minor maintenance upgrades each year. These upgrades usually contain bug fixes for issues found by provisioning system users. Co-ordinated these releases through the same process as a major application upgrade but does not require as much effort to test, plan, and deploy these releases. All minor maintenance upgrades have been delivered to the agreed business date which has allowed users to gain benefits of the various bugs being fixed • Meta model updates – The network provisioning system underwent a month by month meta model update. These updates consisted of ‘business as usual’ changes as well as project or program related changes. Meta model changes covered both equipment level object creations and/or infrastructure level object creations.
OPTUS | IT Graduate / Systems Analyst – Operational Support Systems (from February 2002 to June 2004)
The IT graduate program involved a six-month rotational roles for graduates, providing exposure to both assurance and fulfilment systems. My area of focus was the understanding of network provisioning systems and the meta modelling process. Achievements: • Managed inventory circuit diagram updates. This task involved updating the Route schematic XML file to add new data labels to all circuit layer diagrams in the network provisioning system • IT representative for provisioning system. This role represented the IT group in the weekly and monthly provisioning support meetings and new functionality development • Decommissioning project manager – This role covered the whole end to end decommissioning of an ‘end of life’ network provisioning system.
