The Western Australian Government is seeking to appoint a dynamic and committed individual to drive major reform in occupational safety and health in Western Australia.
Reflecting the highest level of commitment to the safety of workers, the Worksafe Western Australia Commissioner (Commissioner) is being established as a dedicated position with a sole focus on work place health and safety.
This is an independent statutory office reporting directly to the Minister of Commerce and Industry Relations.
The Commissioner is responsible for performing the functions and exercising powers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (OSH Act). In fulfilling these functions the position will be supported by the WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and work closely with the Deputy Director General (Safety Regulation) of that Department.
To be successful in this position you will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in administrating a statutory function and a sound knowledge of the OSH Act and relevant legislation. Superior stakeholder engagement skills are needed to effectively build and maintain relationships, including the ability to negotiate persuasively. You will further be able to act decisively and have exemplary personal integrity and high ethical standards.
This is a fixed term position for a period of up to five years.

Hunter Executive Search Consultants are currently working in partnership with the Public Sector Commission and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) to recruit a dedicated WorkSafe Commissioner for Western Australia.
This is a significant, stand-alone role responsible for strengthening workplace safety in Western Australia and we are seeking applications from suitably qualified, high-calibre individuals with a passion for safety and the ambition to fulfil the government's commitment in this area.
To be successful, you will need to have a passion for ensuring and promoting safety as well as the ability to drive change, build and maintain high-level relationships and negotiate outcomes to ensure a safer future for Western Australian workers.
You will be responsible for performing the functions and exercising powers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (OSH Act) and contributing to legislative review and reform.
This role reports directly to the Minister of Commerce and Industry Relations and will be supported by and work collaboratively with DMIRS.
