Southern Queensland Rural Health (SQRH) is a new joint initiative of The University of Queensland, University of Southern Queensland, Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service and South West Hospital and Health Service funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health as a University Department of Rural Health. 
SQRH is being established to provide high quality rural training experiences for pre-registration allied health, nursing and midwifery students in rural and remote communities across Southern Queensland with a focus on improving the recruitment and retention of health professionals in rural and remote communities. Additionally SQRH is funded to engage with the local communities to support the delivery of training to students, maintain and progress an evidence base and the rural health research agenda, support improvements in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and provide regional leadership in developing innovative training solutions to address rural workforce recruitment retention.
The role
SQRH is seeking an experienced researcher to develop and lead a body of research that progresses an evidence-base in rural health training and practice and maintains and supports the rural health agenda of SQRH.
Located in Toowoomba, the Senior Research Fellow of the SQRH is responsible for leading and supporting research into: rural health workforce development; rural training strategies; innovative rural health service delivery models to enable the provision of health services to meet community needs; improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Senior Research Fellow is a member of the SQRH leadership team and will provide high level research advice and support to staff of SQRH.
The position is central to the ongoing development of a strong evaluation and research culture across a diverse range of activities within the SQRH, and meeting research objectives stipulated within the funding agreement.
The person
The successful applicant will have a proven track record in leading health research activities, publishing research findings, developing research partnerships, successful grant submissions and supervising higher degree research students.
