About the Employer: Based at our central Darwin Head Office. Not for profit, this key role offers a real opportunity to work with Indigenous. This large reputable national employer provides a range of social services, including counselling, AOD, mental health, parenting, youth, family and domestic violence reduction support. Additionally, projects and programs, tailored for couples, individuals, families, children and women.
Position Specifics/Program Objective: The Crime Victims Counselling and Support Service works with crime victims to help reduce the ongoing negative impacts of trauma. Tailored to meet the needs of the client, the program provides brief, one-off interventions, through to clinical counselling of up to several sessions. The service tailor’s interventions to link into expert assistance, for example, victims of domestic violence are linked into specialist domestic violence programs, child victims are linked into children’s counselling programs, and victims who have compensation claims are linked into financial counselling services to help support financial decision making.
The Crime Victims Counselling Coordinator is responsible for providing and coordinating counselling and group work for clients who are crime victims across the Northern Territory. This includes providing face-to-face counselling with clients, telephone and/or Skype counselling, visiting remote locations to see clients, assessing referrals and linking clients in with counsellors who service their region.

About the Program: The Taking Action to Tackle Suicide Program aims to achieve a reduction in suicides in the region by providing direct support to individuals who have been identified as ‘at risk’. The program is integrated with existing service responses and provides updates to a local Advisory Body which consists of members from both clinical and community-based services within the local area. The aim is to over time build community capacity to respond to issues relating to suicidal behaviour and enhance safety and wellbeing.
Position Purpose: The Mental Health Practitioner is responsible for working closely with individuals and the families of people who have attempted suicide. This position provides direct support to the individual while working alongside existing community supports to engage them with the ongoing assistance they require. This position conducts Mental Health assessments with the individual, while developing a comprehensive support plan.
This position has a particular focus on accurately assessing a person’s immediate needs and collaborating with key stakeholders to have these needs addressed via a documented support plan so that safety can be established. The position then works closely with providers to sustain the safety net.
