About the role

About the job
The Peer Community Worker offers support, either face to face or over the telephone, to families of young people aged 12-25 years attending the Early Psychosis Youth Service (EPYS) and who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. They have a “lived” experience of caring and supporting a young person who has experienced a first episode of psychosis. The Peer Community Worker is not a clinician, but receives training and ongoing supervision from senior clinicians within the EPYS.
They are expected to function autonomously as well as work collaboratively with other workers and clinicians within the program and to assist in the development of services for families which are consistent with best practice standards and evidence-based care, and are in line with the strategic direction and vision for the EPYS.
The overall aims of family peer support within the EPYS are to:

About the program
The EPYS program provides services for young people aged 12-25 years and their families. The scope of the contracted services includes the provision of EPYS Functional Recovery Services which are centred on recovery oriented practices which recognise that young peoples’ self-determination is a vital part of successful treatment and recovery. The services will be provided to young people who are referred from State Area Health Service Providers (HSPs) and will be complimentary to the care they are receiving from headspace centres. Ruah will provide supports and/or services which support the Young Person and their family in the community. This may include linking young people to educational and vocational programs and other group based and individual psycho therapeutic services, inclusive of alcohol and other drug treatment services.  
The services will be based upon relevant Early Psychosis  Prevention  and  Intervention Centre (EPPIC) Model standards and principles as relevant to non-government service delivery in a shared care environment with state mental health services.
