High-performance team, where you can access all stages of significant corporate deals Take a focus on listed companies, primarily spanning up to the mid-cap market While the local space is recovering, there is still some way to go, so the relative fee flexibility that comes from a specialist corporate boutique remains attractive for this tranche of the market The upshot of this for you on the ground is a stream of high quality transactions coming through the door, ensuring you continue to develop your skill set You will benefit from the wealth of knowledge across the Partner and Senior Associate ranks all of whom come from a top-tier or global firm background However there is a distinct absence of the ‘Type A personalities’ present in some of the teams on the Terrace Matters will span M&A, capital markets and IPOs, listing advices and governance There will also be some involvement with E&R agreements and project structuring Associate conversion expectations / opportunity will be outlined for you during interview
Requirements: you will have 1-3 yrs’ PAE in corporate law and a strong academic background.

Differing from many of the other globals / top-tiers on the Terrace, there isn’t a queue to join in the experienced Associate ranks Rather, this structure will see you as the key practitioner at this level; effectively acting as the lynchpin between the two affable SCs and the junior ranks For you, this means; Less competition for SA conversion (twice yearly process) Better access to the 3 partners, their clients and the ‘creamier’ matters Opportunity to make the most impact and be noticed
You will access M&A, ECM and private equity deals, primarily across resources, tech and healthcare, plus some strong FIRB advice activity There will also be an element of operational contracting in relation to projects; resources, rail etc. Culturally, there is understanding of the demands of a deal heavy role; with recognition given to late finishes when it comes to reciprocal flexibility Requirements; you will have at least 3, ideally 4, years’ PAE in corporate, commercial or projects law. Strong academics expected.

Dynamic National Corporate Team Resourceful CBD firm Lateral Appointment into Partnership  $195K - $250K (SC) or $300K to $750+ (SP) + profit share
With the average age of its Partners in their early 40's, it is a firm with a deep level of technical capability while also being a relatively young and highly collaborative partnership.
The firm offers the full range of commercial legal solutions and has an excellent reputation for providing superior legal services to their corporate clients.

As a mid-tier national practice relatively new to Brisbane, this firm has aggressive and strategic growth plans driven by extremely active clients.

THE ROLE

The firm is now seeking a talented corporate lawyer ideally of 10 to 20 years experience to join their highly-regarded practice. You will work with 3 other Corporate Partners in managing and mentoring a team while jointly managing client relationships across a range of matters:
regulated and unregulated mergers and acquisitions, equity capital markets, private equity, corporate advisory, joint ventures, franchising, TMT & IP, Procurement, competition issues,  complex commercial agreements, ASX and Corporations Act compliance, financial services, partnerships and co-ownership structures, managed investment schemes, privacy and data protection, corporate restructures.
Indicative of the composite skills this firm seeks in a Partner, they expect your business profile will generate additional client activities. You must be able to back yourself if you expect to step into this partner level role.

WHAT YOU NEED
The expectations are genuinely for 10-20 years post-admission experience, a fair portion of which must have been recently obtained in Brisbane within a specialist  firm, a mid-tier, or a large practice where your skills have been allowed to develop in that corporate commercial stream.

In addition, you will have well-developed team management skills and a high level of commercial acumen and a strong client focus.
WHAT YOU GET

This is a lateral appointment into Partnership and your earnings will reflect your abilities as well as what you bring to the table. A remuneration package at the upper end of the market is expected for the successful candidate and is likely to exceed your expectations. For entry level Partners they offer generous salaries, plus bonuses on reasonable KPI's. For Equity Partners their earnings are in excess of industry benchmarks without the need to compromise on prestige or resources.

While other firms are cost-shedding to maintain their profit pool, this firm maintains an extensive local and national back-office infrastructure that underpins the very success of each partner.
OUR EXPERIENCE

In challenging times, there has been the need for law firms to recalibrate in order to maintain a competitive advantage and a sustainable profit pool for its partners. Those that have managed this have emerged as magnets to other partners looking to transition their clients to a more innovative and profitable platform.
With 30 years as specialist consultants to the legal profession, Law Staff has an impressive history of facilitating discreet moves for partners, and whole teams, to specialist, mid or top tier practices, all while providing critical intelligence on:
Individual profitability of the relevant firms; Partnership structures and equity distribution; Strategic growth plans; Intra/Cross practice compatibility; Historical transitions; Performance expectations; as well as Partnership culture and idiosyncrasies (trust us when we say that no one firm is perfect).
In addition, our Senior Client Advisors have assisted hundreds of partners in writing detailed business plans that identify only relevant information including key practice components as well as transitioning requirements, and less of the white noise. We advise you when the appropriate time is to table this information to ensure your commercial interests are preserved. Most importantly, we will only ever confer with the relevant Managing Partner after you have done your research and at a time when you have expressed in writing that you are ready to take that cautious next step. Absolutely everything stays in the vault until that time. A list of partner references can be made available at your request.
THE NEXT STEPS
At LawStaff we offer a lounge room setting for a relaxed confidential discussion over coffee/tea, allowing you to comfortably provide us with an understanding of your considerations in that next move.
